A somewhat older hotel / restaurant, no elevator.Friendly staff that brought my suitcase upstairs.Rooms simple, very small TV with poor / bad receptions,internet signal week.They toasted gluten-free bread for me, no gluten free serials available (but I had my own).

This is because of the hotel location and the reseasonable prices , I selected this hotel but annex only. The annex room is small but clean in general. This could be better if the spider webs and the external areas , specificallythe main entrance can be tidied up ! The main building is fine !

This is a gem with a great location close to everything at a reasonable price for what you get. We had a teenager and two adults and room 1 was bigger than expected with an updated bathroom. The noise from construction nearby was not as loud as I expected and the hotel had thoughtfully put some boards in the roomTo cover windows with soundproofing if needed, which is more than many higher end accomodation options would do in a similar situation. The stairs are narrow and do not have rails all the way up so be careful on the stairs. The breakfast included had a good range of options like pastry fruit three cereals toast choice of multiple yogurts and hard boiled eggs. The garden area is absolutely charming and there are books and maps available to travellers. Tv in the room was big. Beds and room were very clean and comfortable. Staff super friendly and very fast with breakfast service. Communication with the hotel pre booking and post booking was very thorough and gave details of roadworks and closures well ahead of time and there is a good discount for booking ahead directly. Don’t stay anywhere else in Oxford!

Lovely stay at nice reasonably priced hotel, with nice hosts

I met Lily fortunately and she gave me some helpful advices, I feel very comfortable when having breakfast in front of the garden.

The room was exactly as advertised, a decent size with plenty space for two people. The bathroom and shower was of similar quality. The location was great as it is close to the train station and a short walk to downtown Oxford. Staff is helpful and provides a nice free breakfast.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Westgate Hotel. The staff there are currently working under very difficult circumstances, with the work outside which is far beyond their control, yet they were always smiling, helpful and professional in their approach. The rooms are comfortable and the buffet breakfast is good value, with VERY reasonable add-ons if you would like anything cooked. If you are travelling to Oxford by train, the Westgate is a perfect location, and only 10 minutes walk from the City Centre.

We were traveling as a family with two young children and stayed at Westgate Hotel for one week. We were extremely pleased with our room, checkin, checkout, and the complimentary breakfast included with our stay. Will, Gabby, Phil, Alice, and the rest of the staff at Westgate were very hospitable and even helped us make the most of our time by suggesting potential places to visit with our children. One of our high points of the week was visiting the Story Museum in the Oxford City Centre, and we would have never known about it if it had not been for the friendly staff at Westgate.I would definitely stay at the Westgate with my family again. Our lodging in this historic hotel was pleasant and comfortable, the staff were very friendly, and the breakfast options available were perfect for our family. We felt very well cared for from the moment we arrived to the time when we departed.

We liked very much to stay at Westgate Hotel. It has a cosy and friendly atmosphere, very much due to the nice people in the staff. We also much appreciated the breakfast, including the fresh fruit.

Enjoyed my stay, with friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms, excellent buffet breakfast and a quiet room despite the continuing Botley Bridge works. The Hotel, which I have stayed at before, is convenient for the Railway Station and a short walk from the centre of Oxford. And reasonable rates. Plus it is close to the river footpath network.

Brilliant location and friendly staff. Sadly, that’s all I can say was good about this visit.The room was very small and the bathroom needed to be newly decorated and spruced up. None of that would have been a massive problem if the following hadn’t happened: The hotel took payment from me and THEN emailed me the next day to say there was no parking available due to roadworks and we would have to park somewhere else AND pay for it - this is something we should have been told before paying. We chose the hotel due to the car park so this was disappointing. To then have to pay extra was even more disappointing, especially as we were not told before paying for the room itself or being given a chance to reconsider - quite sneaky.The hotel is currently in the centre of major roadworks which start very early in the morning. We were given a polystyrene board to put in our window to drown out the noise - it helped a bit but not a lot.Like I said at the start, great location and nice staff so a real shame overall.

We believe we are far from sneaky.

Very nice little room with clean bathrooms shared with the neighbours. The service is nice and the breakfast is delicious. The only thing I am not sure is the wifi. My room is on the top floor, and there was NO wifi all the time.

I received a warm and businesslike welcome at this very conveniently located hotel, literally 5 minutes from the train station. It was an excellent deal and I would stay again. My only suggestion concerns the wifi: there were disruptions and the speed wasn't great. In my case the aim of this and future visits is a working holiday and good wifi is essential. Otherwise, I had a nice stay and intend to visit again.

Its an old building and could do with a freshen up with a lick of paint and some new sanitary fittings but this did not impact our stay. The room and bedding was clean, comfortable and warm. Plenty of hot water. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful and the staff are lovely. Great location for getting into town and safe parking at a reasonable cost. Building works outside are not the fault of the hotel and they did all they can to minimise the noise. We slept well and these works did not impact us

My stay at The Westgate was enjoyable. Friendly staff, location close to train station and not too much of a walk to the center, and a nice breakfast buffet. Inspite of all night roadworks outside, management has devised insulating and noise killing inserts for the windows facing the street.

Westgate was its usual accommodating self. Friendly and efficient. They have on-going roadworks (March 2024) but have made necessary changes to minimise impact to guests.I use Westgate to go to shows and stay over so it's just the right distance away from the centre of the city.

The Westgate Hotel makes my research trips to Oxford such a happy experience! Gabby and Will are the perfect hosts; the rooms are always tidy and warm. There's a substantial continental breakfast every morning with hot tea and toast ready in moments. Chef makes eggs to order perfect every time and remembers your order after the first time.I travel by myself and always feel safe coming and going, as whoever is on the desk will acknowledge my leaving and if I'm home late the doors are secured with a pass-key. There is work going on outside the front door of the hotel, but rather than being a bother the workmen and the traffic helpers all take the time to know my name and let me know when their shift changes so that I can check in with them if I am coming in after dark from the library.There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the Westgate neighbourhood which has a very inclusive hippie-hipster vibe. If I want to go into Oxford-proper, it's only an 8-10 minute walk and everything is well lit. The neighbourhood is rarely rowdy, even on St. Patrick's Day night and during the Six Nations rugby nights which were happening on my most recent stay, but its festive enough that you feel like you don't have to hunting for some mischief if that's what you want to get into!I love it at the Westgate. :)

We needed somewhere to stop overnight after a theatre trip.The Westgate Hotel ticked all the boxes. Room clean, and comfortable. Ours was on the second floor. Breakfast was of the continental type, full English was available if required at little extra cost. Must emphasise all at the hotel were most helpful, explaining exactly where the theatre was and a choice of places for somewhere to eat before our theatre trip.

We spend one night in the Westgate hotel and were upgraded from a twin bedroom to a triple bedroom with my friend which was nice. The room was very clean and welcoming. There was a little bit of noise from the station during the day but nothing annoying at all.The staff was very warm and helpful, they let us check-in earlier as our room was ready. The lady in charge of the breakfast was so nice…We choose to have a warm breakfast instead of the buffet included in the price. It was unexpensive and delicous!The only drawback would be that the water pressure in the bathroom was really weak, but maybe it is just the water pressure in the area, I don’t know….

Enjoyed a nice weekend in Oxford and The Westgate Hotel. The hotel is ideally situated ,especially for guests arriving by rail. It is a very short walk to the centre of the City. Our room was basic, yet clean,comfortable and refreshed after night one. There was little noise at night, mainly due to nearby road closures. We paid a small extra payment for a hot breakfast on our second morning , which was bothwell cooked and well served by a very friendly lady.From when we checked in to our leaving on Sunday we received great service by all staff we encountered . A nice little hotel in a very good location. Within walking distance from both train and bus stations . The room was clean and uncluttered. The en suit was excellent, great design with a fantastic raised shower. Spacious and bright. Staff were polite and friendly and very helpful. Had two great nights sleep with minimal noise from outside activity.

No problems at all - they were very helpful when there was a bit of confusion over my arrival time.

Stayed in a single room with shared bath for two nights in the main building. Everything is well looked after, and the staff is very helpful, even accommodating a late night check-in. I would happily stay here again.

This is a great hotel, very close to Oxford train station. It's simple clean, comfortable, everything you need for a good night's sleep. The hosts are friendly and helpful, the cafe lovely.While noisy works are going on by the station, the owners have left soundproofing panels that you can put over the windows. But you might do better to ask for a room at the back. This is a temporary situation.

The room is clean and breakfast is good.But it needs some upgrade, e.g.there are very few power outlet in the room,especially no charging place for iphone.Wifi is available but slow.

The staff at the Westgate worked a miracle getting me in for the week after my room was double-booked at another hotel in town. Location was great and the road work didn’t make any difference to me since I was walking. Room is cozy and warm; breakfast was lovely; the staff are kind, conversational, professional but not ‘stiff’. Super clean. Loved it!

The hotel is clean, organized, comfortable, affordable. The location is very convenient--just 10 minutes walking from Oxford's city center. The host is very kind and helpful. My room (classic double + ensuite) was entirely pleasant. The only issue is the noise from major road construction in the area, but not only this id clearly none of the hotel's fault, but also management had been so honest as to warn us of the possible inconvenience. Think the staff at this hotel work hard to make up for lack of aesthetics when it comes to the decor of the hotel. They are trying to improve it by decorating at the moment. The buffet was nice, I had cooked breakfast, the bacon was the best I have had in a long time, was cooked fresh, so nice and hot. Well situated for train station and amenities Oxford has to offer, which are many.

We enjoyed our stay at the Westgate Hotel. Noise was a bit of a problem; the floors/ceilings are thin and the construction noise from just outside was quite noticeable. The hotel did offer ear plugs. But the hotel is clean, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is just terrific. They were friendly and accommodating. We were grateful for the continental breakfast. Would recommend.

We booked in the Westgate when our travel plans changed and we needed two twins. It turned out great.A lovely staff, so thoughtful and hospitable, they made sure we had breakfast to take with us even though we checked out early. Precious courtyard off the dining area. Super close to rail station and tourist bus stop. We really loved staying with the Westgate.

Convenient for rail station, en-suite room clean and well maintained (including bathroom extractor fan), efficient and attentive staff. It is an old building with narrow steepish stairs which might be an issue for some. I would return.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Westgate as a family of 4 (2 kids, aged 9 & 12) for a family do in Jericho. It doesn't look like much from the outside and we were slightly concerned that it was right next to the roadworks so could have been noisy, but we were really impressed.We were in the Annex which is in the road opposite so it's very quiet despite being so close to the train station. We had 2 rooms (1 twin, 1 double + single) with a shared bathroom, all behind a door, which was great as we were self-contained but had separate rooms for kids and adults. While the decor isn't the height of luxury, it is clean and comfortable and the rooms were quite big so we weren't squeezing around the beds. The real bonus was the staff - they were all incredibly friendly and helpful. We have stayed at many Oxford B+Bs over the years and this was by far the nicest, with the added bonus of a fantastic location while somehow not having to pay central Oxford prices. I am sure we will stay there again in future.

We stayed one night as a stopover on the way to France. With the Botley Road closure it was very convenient to park our car and walk into the centre of the city.

We are completely satisfied with our stay at the Westgate. The room, while small, had everything we needed. But the best part of our stay was visiting with the owner/manager and the head registrar. They were both so helpful with suggestions of things to do, buses to take, etc. We'll stay here again if we ever come back to Oxford.

Westgate Hotel is very close to Oxford station and a short walk from its town centre, perfect for our F1 weekend. Its somewhat dated interior is clean and has modern aspects such as ample power sockets, USB charging and of course wifi. The continental breakfast can be supplemented with tasty hot additions, all priced very fairly. The best aspect for me was the very friendly and helpful staff. Currently a little visually affected by local roadworks (although no noise!), these are due to finish soon. We enjoyed our stay and would book again.

We were accepted at the last minute as we made a mistake with the check out of our previous booking. The owner and the staff in the hotel were really nice and helped us. They climb for us the 3rd floor stairs with our luggage. The room was really nice. It is closed to the station and the city. The garden is full of flowers and plants. Really nice to stay there! Second time I've stayed here, each time for around a week (doing work at Oxford libraries). The place is simple, near to the bus station, and what you'd expect for an old city hotel. Staying there a week made me feel like I as part of the household. Room is simple and well-kept. Alas, there's an epic road-construction project going on right in front, so there is some ambient noise; but of course that's none of the hotel's fault.

Polite staff on arrival. Upgraded from a twin to a double room which was clean and tidy. Bed clean and comfortable providing a good night's sleep. Breakfast good, freshly cooked. All staff polite and helpful. Roadworks outside meant road closed so probably quieter than it would have been with moving traffic. Close to city centre for a walk around. Good value for the money.

Obviously a work in process but the staff was lovely and the included breakfast just right to start the day. A bit noisy at night but not so much you can't sleep. I would certainly stay there again.particularly good if you're on a budge.

The hotel is perfect if you want to go on daily trips + see Oxford. It is near to the train station. Just 2 minutes away. Breakfasts are great, there is toasts, croissants, fruits, joghurts, eggs. Everyone picks what they want. The stuff bring us tea or coffe on the table. And there is a juice and water.The minus side of the hotel is, that you can hear everything. Steps above you, noise on the street or from train station. And there was some construction works while we have been there so that was loud too (but the hotel cannot do anything about that so I am not saying that as a minus, just let you know).The stuff is really great. I felt really sick last day (the day that we checked out) after breakfast. They let us to stay in the room for as long as we needed (3 pm when we had to catch train to the airport). It really helped and I am sure I woud not be feeling good if I didn't lay down that long. Thank you!

We were in the annex, very quiet. The included continental breakfast was excellent and the extra charge cooked breakfast that other guests had looked good.

A basic hotel, of course, but good value for money when considering what others charge!Thanks for letting me leave my little Pug 205 outside. and for the very useful information about the buses; I managed to get to my college for dinner, down to the boat-house for the final of Eights Week, and back to college for lunch the next day, all without having to grab a taxi!

What made this stay fantastic was the warmth and hospitality of everyone we encountered.Andrew, Lilli and Gabby.Just wonderful.Beds are comfortable and rooms are clean.Felt very safe.We were a group of older women travelling together and enjoyed the stay and the convenient location to the center of the city.The cold buffet breakfast was very generous and we indulged in the cooked breakfast.It took a while for the hot water to kick in but I was on the second floor but it did get hot enough to shower.There is no elevator so getting luggage up the stairs was a challenge but Andrew kindly assisted with the luggage.Would stay again and recommend the Westgate Hotel for a value for money location.

We especially liked the convenience: so close to the train station and not far from the city center. Although the room was very small, we managed ok. The breakfast was excellent! The person in charge at the desk was very thoughtful.

Very close to train station. Sweet garden area to sit in. Continental breakfast was nice. We had triple room, one double, 2 twins. Bathroom was adequate but shower a little hard to maneuver in. My twin bed was a little lumpy.Staff was friendly and helpful. All in all a pleasant stay for one night.

Double room a bit small for suitcases if you are planning a longer stay and want to unpack. Stairs not for those with poor mobility.Phil and Will did kindly carry our large suitcases. The hotel was very basic but fine. Stairs were a bit steep, location great, surprised that there was no shampoo and soap for the shower. Breakfast was delicious, staff were friendly, beds were comfy.

It is very near the train station. My room and bathroom were large and comfortable, except for having to climb the typical narrow, steep, carpeted stairs of many English hotels and houses. The breakfast buffet is simple but good enough. The staff is kind.

I stayed 5 nights at the Westgate as I was studying at St Johns.I was able to park my car in the hotel car park (other hotels in Oxford don’t have this facility).It took me a 15-20mins walk to the uni.The hotel is very clean and the breakfast is good. My only negative is the shower (as most hotels) had a mind of its own, boiling or freezing!!!All staff were pleasant.I’d recommend staying here if you want a basic clean hotel with a good continental breakfast a stone throw from the centre!

We really enjoyed or stay in the westgate hotel. Nice rooms, bigger size then other hotels, nice service and for us a good breakfast. The owner is very friendly and helpfull. We definetly recommed this hotel.

We stayed in the family room with three large cheery windows and a private bathroom. The room was very clean and the bathroom recently updated. The beds were comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our complimentary breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, hot drinks, fresh hot toast, hard boiled eggs, cold cereal, yogurt, and packaged pastries. For an even better deal, we enjoyed buying the full breakfast to add fried eggs, sausage, bacon, beans (new for us!), and a half a tomato. The hotel was a very short walk to the bus and train station. We could easily walk to the city center to go on tours of Oxford colleges (We enjoyed Christ Church and the Duke Humfrey Library), the Oxford Castle, and free museums. The only downside was some mild construction noise outside. We found Oxford to be a beautiful, walkable, and interesting city for a family holiday!

Allocated room 12 with a refurbished bathroom which was great. Only feedback is the shower pressure needs looking at. Room itself was fine, a double and single bed. It was clean, bed linen and towels both felt fresh. Lack of hanging space as no wardrobe, just four hooks. This wasn’t really a problem as it was an overnight stay. The breakfast was fine, cereal, pastries, yoghurts, fruit and toast. The added bonus there is parking (first come, first served).The Westgate isn’t the Ritz, but nor is it advertising itself as that. It’s a fantastic location and great value for money. Definitely would recommend, if you need a place to stay in Oxford city centre.

Thank you very much for hosting me. The hotel is very nice (it has a homely charme) and is located close to the train station. Due to the location and the thin walls (but I think that's a challenge in most British houses), it is a bit noisy. Nevertheless, the rooms are very clean and the owners are extremely friendly. The breakfast is fresh, typical British, and delicious. I would recommend this hotel to all people that like a stay over in a typical British atmosphere (rather than an international hotel chain).

We stayed at the hotel for city break. We booked the family room which had a double and 2 singles and this was just what we needed as a family (couple with 2 children). The beds were comfortable and bathroom was in excellent condition (it appeared to be recently upgraded). It was a little light in the morning due to the thin curtains, but was not too concerning. There was free parking outside which was an excellent addition. The staff were friendly, and very welcoming. Finally, the continental breakfast was satisfying for us all.I would recommend this hotel for a family looking to explore Oxford on foot (it is very conveniently located for central Oxford).

Wallpaper falling off wall in corridor. £100 a night is the cheapest you’ll get in Oxford. It’s not horrendous but genuinely needs a fill refurb. I’d stay there again as I’m not fussy but it really needs smartening up.

Staff very friendly and helpful.Continental breakfast very good and food intolerance managed well.The one problem when booking with the hotel was 2 of our rooms were sharing a bathroom but the rooms were not connected and one of the rooms was on a different floor, not very easy to access and not made clear at the time of booking!

They were very welcoming on our arrival, made us free at home. Free car parking, only a 15 min walk into town, very clean and they have me a cooked vegan breakfast.

The Westgate is a family-run hotel, in an ideal location for everything Oxford has to offer.Free parking (1st come 1st served!) which is rare close to the city centre.The younger generation have just taken over, and are updating the hotel.It is rather dated in decor etc, but this is now being addressed.

We were staying in the annex building which was a few minutes walk away, basic but very clean and comfortable, the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, the breakfast was delicious. Would stay again should I find myself in this part of the country

I decided to write this review because some of the existing reviews are really not doing a place justice.I stayed in an annex room, no.6 (second floor of the house - attic) and I think it is exactly what you pay for - a room with shared bathroom (2 rooms share 1 bathroom), cosy enough and clean. Breakfast is simple but enough. Staff friendly. So, it was a good place to stay for a cheap price, location is really good. Would return.

It is a very convenient place within 3-min walking distance from the railway station. The room is clean. People there are polite.My experience there was excellent.

The Westgate Hotel looked after us with two very clean and great value rooms

I had walked by many times but never thought to stay; when other accomodations fell through, I booked here because of the affordability and was delighted with the experience. The staff and manegement were very welcoming and went out of their way to help me get checked in quickly and easily. The room was nicely sized, well lit, with a comfortable bed, clean sheets, spotless bathroom. The continental breakfast is serviceable, and there is an option for a cooked breakfast for a small fee. The location is great, a few steps from the train station, and a short walk into central Oxford; in the other direction, its quite close to the riverfront where paths offer walks in several directions. Overall, I highly recommend this small but comfortable and very welcoming hotel.

We had a good stay

Room 2 was stylish, comfy and warm. Premises was clean. Check in was comfy and all the information needed was given. Only 2 things I would change - make sure there are 2 layers heavier curtains to reduce noise of traffic outside. Additionally showerhead was leaking so the pressure was poor, also a plumber may be required as temperature control was very temperamental.I woke up too late for breakfast, but it did smell good! Very good place to stay for business or travelling through.

I needed a comfortable bed in an hotel with a carpark , within easy walking distance of Falkland House . Westgate Hotel satisfied my requirements .

I wished we'd booked a room with a bathroom. I hadn't noticed I'd booked a shared bathroom. It was basic. But friendliness of staff made up for it.

The check in was one of the funniest check ins we have had. The hostess was a friend of the landlady and was easygoing. Only thing we didn’t like was we had to use the key to lock the door at night. It was noisy when we went to the bathroom during the night. Maybe they will put latches on the inside. Would stay there again.

Once we actually found the B&B (which is right next to the station seemingly not something that Google Maps seemed to recognise!) we were welcomed in a very friendly way and pointed in the direction of our room at the top of a very steep and narrow staircase. The room and facilities were spotless and comfortable. For an extra £5 we opted for the cooked breakfast which was OK (however in future I would probably just go for the included continental version and maybe get something later in town if still hungry,). We left our bags until just prior to getting our train home and enjoyed a glass of wine in the very pleasant hotel patio and garden. Would definitely rebook.

Spend a night at West Gate Hotel, te room was so clean and I enjoyed it. I would recommend.

The staff was very kind and considerate. Our daughter had sprained her ankle before our arrival to UK and had to use a pair of crutches. Instead of booked attic room we were accommodated in one of the rooms in the first floor, which was very convenient. We liked our staying in the hotel very much. Surprisingly a very large bathroom in this room.

Our stay at the Westgate was very pleasant! The rooms are efficient in terms of space, small, but everything you need! Very clean! Kind caring staff! The best part was the breakfast! Beautiful garden to enjoy, lovely fruit salad, yogurts, cereal,boiled eggs ect. On top, lovely toast, juice, coffee and tea, served at the table in the lovely garden!

Short distance to the center of Oxford

I booked a room last minute as I was staying in Oxford for an interview. Was just looking for somewhere inexpensive and close to the train station. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the place was. Bedroom, toilet, and shower room were all spotlessly clean. I had everything I needed and got a great night's sleep. Breakfast was a little disappointing, but then, it was free!

The outside is not promising, the corridor tight, the reception area a bit dowdy and the rooms are ok; but as the windows need to be open a bit for air circulation, the traffic noise outside can be discomfiting. But hey, we aren't here because we expected the Ritz. The staff is super (Anna, Seth and Andreas are jewels). Breakfast in the garden is wonderful. Convenient to local buses and the train station and a superb, really superb, Chinese restaurant across the street. We would stay here again.

This 2-star hotel is very close to the train station and the bus terminal. Neat and clean room, good beds. We stayed in the annex and shared bathroom with one other room and it worked fine. The hotel is run by a very friendly and welcoming family. Fine breakfast is included in the price (basic, but with frisk fruit for the yoghurt), and a bigger english breakfast can be ordered. Breakfast can be served inside or in their cozy garden.

I got lucky to have a room in a quiet street near the main building. Kind staff, pleasant stay, proximity of train station was well appreciated.

Was a very clean and well kept room. Had comfortable and peaceful nights and woke at a good time each morning. Bring your own shampoo and bathroom door may not lock, but a clean well kept bathroom and room.

Our stay at Westgate Hotel was from the start very pleasant. We were friendly received by the kind hotel staff and they accommodated all our requests. The rooms were tidy and neat. Overall it was a great price-quality ratio.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was very easy to get to and we could walk into town or hop on a bus from the nearby train station. I was in a new en-suite room. Cooked breakfast was very good and all staff were fast and efficient. I will be recommending the Westgate Hotel to friends and family.

A quiet and very organized place. Food and service on time. Very clean and they changed our bed linen after 2 days! It’s situated close to both the town centre, railway and bus station. Very recommendable!

I enjoyed my stay. I was able to park outside and the hotel was handy for both bus and train station. I am slightly disabled but managed the narrow staircase without incident. Necessity meant I spent more time at the hotel than sightseeing but I enjoyed sitting in the garden. The free breakfast was basic but for little extra the cooked breakfast was excellent value for money. The lunch time cafe was especially useful. The room was clean and tea and coffee facilities provided were ample. The hotel decor although slightly outdated was in keeping with its age.The staff were friendly and helpful.

Thanks for my stay at the Westgate. I thought my room was good, nice and clean and warm enough when i remembered to put the radiator on.I know it was advertised as a shared toilet and shower and the toilet was fine, there was one near me. But the shower room was at the far end and on another floor. Once I had found it, it was good, clean and hot and space to change. Just a long way to go.The breakfast was good too, lots of choice and enough to eat, I didn't opt for the cooked breakfast at all as I don't need it.Location was excellent, right by the station.

This is a super hotel where the staff were welcoming and very accommodating. Our family room was beautifully clean, well appointed and comfortable. Being close to the city, we were able to park at the hotel and walk in easily. Breakfast was great, we had the continental, and it ticked all the boxes for everyone and no one left hungry. We’d definitely stay here again.

Ideal location- one minute walk from the train station and two minutes to the bus station. Very close to the centre and great for visiting all the colleges. We stayed in the Annex which is around the corner from the main hotel. Clean, spacious room with a lovely modern shared bathroom. The Westgate offers nice rooms and a convenient breakfast. When I faced travel difficulties Westgate made accommodations to my schedule. I had a highly positive experience.

We wanted to be close to the station and the West Oxford community centre, so Westgate Hotel was perfect.We arrived by train, and after a very interesting day in Oxford we attended a brilliant milonga at the community centre.We really appreciated being able to walk, late at night and for only 5 mins, to our comfortable room.The breakfast was excellent and the staff very welcoming.

Location was great.Breakfast was tasty,: a continental style buffet including a delicious ,freshly made fruit salad and good range of yoghurts, cereal and fruit juice. My partner had a very good cooked breakfast for a small extra fee.We will definitely return next time we visit Oxford. A home from home

We wanted to stay in central Oxford as we were coming by train to our son's graduation. The Westgate Hotel was perfect: near the station and university, very comfortable, and with an excellent breakfast. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend the Westgate Hotel.

Excellent simple accommodation

The hotel is in a great location to walk into the city. We were also lucky to be able to park albeit the parking bays were busy and I don't think it is a given (it looked like they were being used by non guests and there's no sign to say that it's guests only)The hotel is basic and be warned that the stairs are very steep. Friendly and accommodating staff though and the room was clean and tidy. Perfect for our needs

My room was very clean and very comfortable. The staff were lovely and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable.Only negative was the fact I didn't have my own private toilet.

I highly recommend the Westgate hotel. It's perfectly situated near the train station and the center of Oxford so if you arrive by train, it'll be a hassle free stay! The hotel does have parking space though, so always a plus. The breakfast was very nice and Anne, the host was really helpful during our stay. She upgraded up to a room with a bathroom and made it easy for us to self check in even though it was late at night. The beds were really comfortable and they had even added an extra fleece blanket in case we were cold. I would definitely stay there again!

The lady at reception was very rude

The hotel is just a 2 minute walk from the train station and the centre of Oxford. It is in desperate need of new carpets and paintwork, and the entrance smells a bit fusty. However, the en suite and the communal shower were pristine clean, and the bed was comfortable and had crisp white sheets. The continental breakfast which is included, was very good with fresh chopped fruit, lots of different cereals, toast, croissants etc. The coffee and tea were good quality and the cooked breakfast was top quality for 5£ extra. The old couple who run the place are charming. Overall, it's a good choice if you need a budget hotel in Oxford.

The Skiff Club has enjoyed the hospitality of the Westgate over past 10 years for their downstream meanders, along with mooring at Osney Mill Marina.We all left rested and contented following a hearty breakfast ready for our onwards row down to Goring.

Visiting this hotel is a bit like stepping back to 1975, in both good and bad ways.The managers are friendly and helpful, but the hallways are very narrow and dim and the furnishings are very tired.

Although the hotel is dated, it was clean and run by a very friendly couple. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. We paid £109 for a twin room within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Oxford and that included parking on site and a very good continental breakfast served in the delightful garden/covered terrace. Great value for money.

This has already been our second stay at Westgate. Just as last time, it was a very nice stay! The hosts have been extremely friedly and accommodating. In times of Corona, traveling has become quite difficult - but in Westgate we fehlt welcome and safe during our whole stay!Highly recommend!

This little family run hotel is well located by the station and with free parking if you come by car as we did. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs so not recommended for disabled. It was small but well-appointed , very clean and a comfortable bed. Downside is the main road so traffic will wake a light sleeper. Also the room was very cold and we could see no way to heat it. Continental breakfast was outstanding with fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, boiled eggs and ample toast.

My husband and I visited Oxford for a one night visit without a car, and the Westgate was prefect for us. Right around the corner from the train station and a quick 10-15 min walk from city center meant we didn't have to waste a lot of time or money in getting around. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were pleasant. I would definitely recommend the Westgate to anyone on a budget doing a quick visit to Oxford.

Westgate Hotel is a very nice pension that is definitely worth it for the money. The breakfast is excellent (toast, eggs, cereal, tea, coffee, baked goods, etc). The rooms are cleaned each day, and there is even tea and coffee refilled in the room every day. If you decide to stay at Westgate, make sure to bring warm pijamas because the rooms do get cold despite the heating. The staff is friendly. The rooms are quite small, but there's nothing in particular that is wrong with them. Westgate is also close to inner Oxford and there are shops and restaurants near it. Overall a pleasant experience and would highly recommend.

Staying somewhere like Oxford gives the problem of expense. Thankfully there are some reasonably priced places still.It is not 5 Star but it has two good points - a friendly atmosphere from the staff and convenience for the railway station being about two minutes walk.The centre of town is about 10 minutes walk away.

There was four of us that stop over for one night. The rooms were no frills, clean and still had a kettle for a 2 star B&B. Had great service on booking and on arrival. Fab location. Thank you for supporting a car parking place. We had a comfortable, enjoyable stay and plan again for next year. Sharon x

We found the room to be clean and comfortable, the breakfast excellent and most of the staff friendly and helpful. The downside was the steep and narrow staircase, a bit too much for us oldies.

Was in annexe room so cannot comment on hotel as a whole.My room was comfortable but felt that the wash basin was quite small although I realise that this had to be to fit in with the total size of the bathroom. When I think of continental breakfast, it is usually cereals etc with meats and cheeses-the latter was missing which might disappoint some of your european visitors.Thanks you for a good stay.

Good location, 10 minutes walk into Oxford city centre, parking availability also a big plus. Rooms a little bit plain but functional. Was surprised to find there was a £5 surcharge for a full English breakfast, no mention of this on the website.

Buffet breakfast was OK but as I wason a pleasure trip the finishing time of 9:00am was a bit early.The room was clean but dated. I had a room at the front which meant that on one night the noise from people visiting the kebab van at 1:30 am was very loud.Parking is very limited.

The hotel was perfect for staying a few days. The citycenter is on walking distance. The road is busy, but you get used to it. The last night(5 to 6 sept) there were people working on the street till about 3 in the middle of night, but even that was doable. Breakfast was OK, everything was there, the chocalatebread was delicious. So me and my brother as well had a great stay!!!!

Ich kann das Hotel für einen kurzen Aufenthalt empfehlen. Das Zimmer war für 4 Personen und einen Hund sehr klein, aber ordentlich. Da sich das Hotel an einer Hauptstraße befindet ist es Nachts teilweise etwas lauter. Das Bad ist gut ausgestattet und war sauber. Die Besitz sind sehr freundlich. Ein gutes kontinentales Frühstück war im Preis inbegriffen. Es gab Saft, Toast, Diverse Croissants, Honig, Marmelade, Obstsalat, Cerealien, Quark, Joghurt, Milch, Tee, Kaffee und alles so viel man wollte. Die Lage ist perfekt. Man ist fußläufig in maximal 10 Minuten in der Innenstadt und in ein paar Minuten direkt an der Themse und am Bahnhof. Außerdem steht ein Parkplatz zur Verfügung. Das Hotel ist sehr einfach, hat aber alles, was man braucht!

The hotel was very clean and convenient (few minutes walking from the train station). We spent only the night sleeping, of course, and did not need more than what the hotel offered. The room was not airconditioned, and hence we slept with windows open; on the upper floor, this was no problem at all. The neighborhood is quiet, but the rooms are not strongly isolated, hence noise from the corridor or WC was easily heard. We would choose this hotel for the same purpose (simple overnight while exploring Oxford) again.

Very clean (and I am fussy so if I say very clean, you can bet it is). Free wifi. What's not to like! If we had any criticisms it would be that it was noisy due to being so close to the main road - but we expected that, so near to the centre. We still slept well! We had a double room with ensuite and can recommend this hotel - we'd certainly go back.

3 minuses: little room to put anything in the bathroom; no plug near kettle; large lorries turning round outside overnight. All else big plusses: clean, good wardrobe & cupboard space, fine breakfast (available early!), and the staff - all of them - could not have been more friendly or more eager to help.

The room was a good size, with a double and a single bed, comfortable and warm (once the heating was on), on the top floor (not great for accessibility, if this is an issue); the breakfast was hearty and tasty, and I was grateful for gluten free bread, which was an added bonus; only downsides were a dodgy TV signal and an incredible noise from the road (and train station) outside/nearby, until late at night, and early in the morning, so thank goodness for ear plugs!

The hotel is conveniently located a stones throw from the train station.It is a smalland efficient establishment, clean and comfortable.Be warned the stairs are steep and tight but we got our luggage up with no issues.The staff were pleasant and welcoming, we arrived well before check in time having disembarked form QE2 in Southampton early that morning. We hoped we would be able to drop off our luggage and tour the town. They allowed us to check in as our room was ready so we took a quick nap before walking about Oxford.The breakfast in the garden the next morning more then exceeded our expectation with both good service and food.We we regret our stay was so brief.

My pooch and I loved our ‘basic’ room in the annex. Quiet and clean as a whistle. And the staff couldn’t have been nicer. As a two star hotel, I give it five stars.

Looking at the outside of the hotel and the closest vicinityfirst made us doubt the wiseness of our choice. But once inside the very warm and friendly welcome soon dispelled these thoughts. Our rooms were newly refurbished and in perfect condition. The location close to the railway station was convenient. Short walking distance to the city centre. The only slightly negative remark I have is that the bed was a bit on the short side. If you, are, like I am, 6 foot+ your feet will dangle over the edge

Arrived at the hotel and it does look a bit dated but booked for a convenient location and parking facilities.I had an annexe room with my own ensuite.It was a bit odd being directed from the hotel down a road to the house/annexe but once there it was very clean and I felt safe.I have no criticism apart from maybe better quality pillows as they were really thin.Everyone very friendly and for me, it was a good visit for business.Oxford is very expensive and this offered good value for money given the location.Wifi was good, nice towels, TV, tea coffee etc in the room.Breakfast looked great but sadly did not have time to stay and enjoy it.Would use again if in the area.

Westgate Hotel is in an easily accessible spot, with parking, close to Oxford City Centre. The breakfast is superb. Friendly staff, responsive to requests. The staircase is a tad steep and narrow, so only suitable for fit people.

The hotel was well situated for a short walk into Oxford & the station.The staff were lovely, really friendly & helpful & the breakfasts were great.The room was clean & the beds comfortable but the decor was dated.It was noisy at night from traffic & pedestrians.The bath had a crack in it there was only hand wash, no other toiletries or even a hairdryer.It was fine for a get together with friends.

This hotel offers good value in a very expensive city. Accommodation is without frills but rooms are very clean, beds comfortable and plenty of hot water for the shower. Getting a freshly cooked English breakfast was a real bonus and was of a higher quality than is often found in more expensive establishments.

My son and i had a twin room in the annex across the road and shared the bathroom with one other room.Our room was clean,had comfortable beds and was very quiet.Breakfast in the main hotel was freshly cooked and very good.We thought the annex was a good value for money choice and in a convenient location for the station and city.

As soon as we entered the Westgate Hotel, we felt welcomed and at ease, We were served with a smile, and nothing was too much trouble.The room we were give had it's on-suite bathroom. Everything was clean and set out to help you settle in straight away. The WI-fi was free and the we had a lovely breakfast. The location of the hotel is ideal if you travel by train, as it is a 2 minute walk to the door. On the main street into Oxford Center. We will definitely stay again when next in Oxford.

Westgate Hotel is located in a good location, walkable distance to Oxford city centre. We stayed in a family room with 1 double and 2 single beds - perfect set up for a family . There is parking next to the hotel. The staff is very friendly . We were able to check in early and leave the car at the car park for 2 hours after we checked out. Breakfast was delicious . Choice of English breakfast , crossaints and cereal. The only negative was that there was no shower gel in the bathroom.

The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff and the provision of a pleasant clean room, decent breakfast and a parking space were much appreciated.My only concern was what alternative fire escape there might be from the second floor were the stairs impassable.

1.飯店離車站很近，雖然因此距離市中心有一段距離，但對我來說，帶著孩子出遊還是能儘快把行李放到房間，不用大包小包的背在身上比較重要。2.我們是兩大一小出門，家庭房有一張雙人床和兩張單人床，雖然房間不是很大，但我們把行李攤在剩下的那張單人床上，空間也非常足夠了。3.家庭房有私人衛浴，不用跟別人共用衛浴。4.美中不足的是，ground floor(所謂的一樓）沒有房間，所有的房間都在first floor(二樓）以上，但工作人員可以幫忙搬行李，嬰兒車也能放在一樓的空間。5.早餐不錯。6.唯一的缺點就是，衛浴內的冷熱水標示錯誤，我們一開始試超久，最後還是請工作人員上來協助才順利洗澡。

A lovely hotel- clean and warm- in a good position for the city centre. Helpful friendly staff and good facilities. The annexe was in quiet position in a nearby residential street although there was some noise from guests on the floor above late one night.We would definitely stay here on future trips to Oxford.

I was travelling for business and needed a billet close to the rail station to take an early train. I was given a room in the annexe. Very peaceful,comfortable, clean. A good night's sleep. Wifi excellent. Didn't have time for breakfast but the Irish breakfast option would have been my preference.

Westgate Hotel has become our first choice when visiting Oxford by being both centrally located and dog-friendly. Clean, tidy comfortable rooms and a tasty full english breakfast - all at a reasonable price (for Oxford anyway). The staff are always polite. We have to stay quite a way out of the centre if they are full in order to find another place that accepts dogs.

Heard that the main hotel was noisy but we were put up in "the annex" across the road which was quiet and enjoyable. Only downside was that it's a bit overpriced. But in their defense, they pay booking.com a hefty commission. Next time, I'll book directly from the hotel site.

Nous devions installer nos enfants à oxford et cherchions un endroit bien placé et pas trop onéreux . Nous avons séjourné au Westgate pendant 2 nuits, la chambre et la salle de bain etaient propres et modernes. Le petit déjeuner était très bon. Les hôtes étaient excellents et surtout très accueillants. Steve est charmant. Nous avons pu nous garer gratuitement sur le petit parking de l hôtel. L'hôtel est à côté de la gare , à quelques pas du centre et malgré celala nuit était trescalme . Nous reviendrons dans cet hôtel à coup sûr et recommandons cette petite auberge .

Very convenient being so close to the station and city centre and all amenities - yet quiet throughout the night. The room was sqacious, very clean and comfortable. Although it was a shared toilet and shower room (as expected from the booking) it was spotlessly clean. Generous and tastey breakfast. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. No frills just what was needed for an overnight stay. All in all good value.

We like the Westgate Hotel because of the nice staff, comfortable rooms and simple but perfect breakfast. It's our place to stay in Oxford. Always room for our car to park.

The hotel itself was comfortable, and staff and owner very helpful. Breakfast was good quality and adequate. Our room on 2nd floor was very noisy as we were adjacent to the main road and directly opposite the the youth hostel, whose patrons seemed very noisy until about 1.00am each night. If I were to go to Oxford again I would use the hotel if I could have a room at the back overlooking the garden which was very nicely laid out. The hotel is by the railway station and literally 10 minutes walk from the centre of Oxford.

Just like their website says: comfy bed, clean room and a good breakfast. Nor the most modern or fancy facilities but that is not what I was looking for anyway. A great welcome and helpful staff, enjoyed my stay.

The Westgate is just one block from the rail station, and an easy walk to town on George Street. Simple room was good value. If you want fancy accommodations, look elsewhere. The staff was wonderful, helpful, and made me at home. Breakfast was excellent and served in the garden.

A warm welcome at the arrival, staff and owner are really caring and helpful, good location (very close to the train station and charming paths for a walk on the shores of the Thames, near the centrum), excellent bed and breakfast.A little bit "old fashion" but certainly worth the price.

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was excellent. The location is also great as it is very close to the train station and a short walk to the city center. Make sure you ask for a room not facing the street since the ones that do are very loud at night, and not just the traffic and the trains, but also people talking outside the room. Very difficult to sleep at night.

I stayed there with a colleague for two days to explore oxford. The westgate hotel was a very good choice, for everything is clean, spacious and comfortable. Highly recommanded.

I liked my stay at the Westgate Hotel very much. Staff was friendly and always helpful. The landlord gave good hints about what to see in Oxford, and which pubs are good. Good value for money and only a short walk to the center. The railway station is practically round the corner.

Really enjoyed my stay: the landlord was very friendly and helpful, recommending pubs (I did try the Rose & Crown, it was excellent!) and directions. Breakfast was fabulous, the waiting staff were very attentive and the food was of excellent quality and really well-prepared. The room was of a good size for a single, not much storage space but it didn't need it, and plenty of opening windows. I would expect some people to say the decor was tired, but it was simply a few years' old, and everything was clean and the linens fresh. For the price, and the fact there is parking, I couldn't recommend this hotel more highly.

We stayed in a family room with shared bathroom in the annex building. The room was very pleasant, the bathroom close to the room and the breakfast was great. It was only a 10-15 minute walk to the city center. We had a great time at this hotel.

Our stay was great, a very clean room with great beds and nice linens. My grown up son wanted to see Oxford so after looking up accommodations we found this jewel, it may not be fancy but with the great location, clean room, pet friendly and breakfast it surpassed all our expectations. We’ll be back.

The Westgate Hotel Oxford comes under the "Cheap & Cheerful" category, but it is much more than that. Yes, it was clean, the staff friendly and the bed comfortable. They had taken note of my dietary requirements and served me a substantial bowl of gluten free, soya milk porridge for each breakfast. Now the down points: no towel rail in the shower, nowhere to put it within reach while using the shower. Also the cubicle was so tight that I had to stand with the door open to dry myself! A hook on the back of the door to hang a wet coat would have been an advantage. Finally the TV did not work. That old menace the intermittent fault - picture for five minutes, then a crackling mosaic, then an error message ... I gave up & read a book! But my real praise is for how I was treated on Sunday morning. Because it was snowing I decided to go home on an earlier train. Not only did Steve look up train times for me, and bring down my luggage, he also asked one of his staff to run me to the station in her car to save me calling a taxi. I could not be more grateful. If I have occasion to visit Oxford again I will certainly book in at the Westgate!

Parking space made available on arrival, everywhere lovely & clean. Room comfortable enough except as it was a cold weekend heat in the bathroom would have been nice. Breakfast tasty & plentiful but a little more variety would have been welcome. All staff very friendly.

The staff was very helpful and kind. I was cold on Friday night, I think the heating was turned off. I didn't have the energy to get up and ask for more blankets.

We were very happy with our stay overall:staff were exceptionally (and genuinely) helpful and the the cleanliness of the whole interior and attention to detail were huge pluses. Breakfast very good too. Good value. Only not awarding 5 stars as shower adequate but not not powerful. Stairs quite steep to 2nd floor but not issue for us. Would certainly stay again for all positive reasons above as well as location of only 10 mins or so to city centre.

We had some wonderful days in Oxford and were happy with the Westgate hotel. Friendly staff, rooms are clean and warm and in two minutes you are by the trainstation, 10 minutes to the coach station.We were happy with Westgate and would choose it again...

We were in the annexe, which may not suit some people as it's a two minute walk away across a busy road, however the room was a good size as was the shared bathroom.A friendly place with parking, close to the station and only 10 mins walk to everything.

Came across thishotel whilst searching for something else, I live in Scotland and needed accommodation to visit my seriously ill daughter at the jr, what a surprise I found this place to be, friendly, warm, comfortable and nothing at all was a problem with the owner, he couldn't do enough for us, great location, 1st class hospitality and breakfast was second to none, I will definitely return soon, and recommend hotel to anyone I know going to oxford

Ideal location for our stay right next to Oxford rail station - Hotel is clean and reasonably comfortable - and better priced than other hotels in the area.

We had a good 5 days stay in westgate. The staffs are friendly, beds are comfy and the breakfast is amazing (especially when u have it in the glass roofed cafe). Tho i do hope that the showers can be upgraded.

The single room I stayed in was in an annexe to the main hotel that was a few houses down a side street on the opposite side of the road. It was very clean, quiet and comfortable. I had to get up early, so couldn't stay for breakfast. The staff were welcoming and very helpful with things like storing bags while I was out. I would happily stay there again and it was good value for do close to the station and city centre.

Convenient for what we wanted.

I was in single en-suite room for my first night which is above the conservatory with garden view. It was a great stay with clean room and kettle. The room size in just nice for me however bathroom might be too compact for bigger person. Everything is alright including the train noise as I kept the window opened due to warmness in the room. I was in another room which is next to the main road for the next day. The traffic noise affects my sleeping quality as I have to let the window opened for airflow. I am pleased with the friendly staffs in Westgate. Do book your room through their own website so that you could save £5 off the price rack.

I stwy wt the single room with bathroom and its clean confortable itsnt cold. Its to near to the central of oxford city 19 munutes to walk or 6 or 8 street. The people who manage the hotel its so sweet and friendly. The only thing they should keep in mind is the carpet in the hall. Probably creates a musty smell and that can annoy some client. For the rest really thank u im enjoy my visit qt the hotel.

This hotel is great value when you consider a room in a backpackers hostel is only a little less money. At the Westgate the decor is tired and needs refreshing but on the other hand you get a private room, friendly staff, a comfy, clean bed with a stunning breakfast all in a central location. As long as you accept that the decor is going to be a bit rough, you will not be disappointed with the rest of your stay. The croissants were superb :)

This hotel is well located, only a couple of minutes from the train station. The staff were all incredibly friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.

Much better than first impression. very good value for money. Quality bed sheets and fresh towels, shower worked well and breakfast good. Clean, friendly and adequate accommodation. Close enough to the centre of town (10 min walk) and far enough away from the pubs and clubs to be quiet.

The price is a lot and surely only driven by the proximity to the train station. The room itself was fine. The shared bathroom did not have a shower ie you must run an actual bath. In general the hotel is quite dated.

I spent two nights here. My room with en suite was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is not a glamorous or luxurious establishment,but nor does it pretend to be. It was a good place to come back to, after some very busy days spent in intensive study. In other words, it does what it says on the can!

Stayed here recently, very friendly people who could not do enough for us. Our daughter is in University there so we know the area quite well and this is in great location. We will definitely stay here again.

Als ich ankam, fiel mir sofort der freundliche Empfang auf, die Hilfsbereitschaft bei allen Fragen und Problemchen (z. B.: Wie bekommt man den Wasserkocher für den Tee in die Steckdose?). Alles wurde schnell geklärt, und so blieb es während meines ganzen Aufenthalts.So konnte man sich z.B. das reichhaltige Frühstück ganz individuell zusammenstellen. Meine Befürchtung , daß Straßen- und Eisenbahnlärm stören könnten, erwies sich als unbegründet, die Fenster halten ihn vorüglich ab. Alles, was in der Beschreibung angegeben war, war vorhanden und funktionierte. Breakfast is very good!

I stayed there for two nights. I was travelling for a conference and I had an excellent stay. It is very close to the train and bus station and also very close to the city centre yet in a quiet area. The rooms are nice and clean and the owner is very helpful and kind. Breakfast is excellent. Really good relationship price-quality. I am going to stay in the same place whenever I go back to Oxford.

Nice and informative host. Simple standard but nice. A bit noisy outside (saturday evening) but earplugs ok for us.No elevator but host carried our bags. Breakfast good, pieces of fruit, cereals, milk, toast, even english breakfast on request included.Close to besutiful riverpath and older parts of Oxford. Perfect IF you fint prefer luxury.

The room is clean but everything is very very old. The furnitures, the bath.. The bed was a little bit unconfortable. In the bathroom you just find handsoap. However, the breakfast was excellent and the staff is really kind and helpful.

Stayed here whilst visiting our daughter who studies in Oxford. Our Lhasa Apso dog was also with us, comfortable room, nice breakfast and car parking too, great value for money and friendly owner as well

Great beds, lovely soft towels, fab breakfast, great host... but decor in need of serious upgrading. Thing is this didn't deter from the stay which we all enjoyed. In some ways a liitle gem and providing you don't want the travel/premier cloning decor etc you'll be fine!

I spent 15 days at the Westgate Hotel and enjoyed every minute. The position is ideal because it is just 5 minutes away from the city center. It was really easy to reach since itis near both the train and the bus station. People working there ate nice and friendly. Romms are clean. There is choice and variety of foid for breakfast. I particularly enjoyed the nice garden and eating outside. I think the shower room without a window is the only thing that could be improved. I will be back.

Spent 2 nights here for a weekend break. We wanted somewhere near enough to walk to the centre & get to Oxford attractions. Perfect location just 10 minutes away from the centre, standard en-suite room & welcoming friendly staff. Breakfast buffet including an English breakfast with cereals, fruit, croissants, toast etc & more offered by the friendly staff if you're not full enough! Ideal for a short break & good value for money. Only downfall is limited parking so get there early.If we're ever back in Oxford we would definitely stay here again. Thank you Westgate.

Dear,The reception was friendly. I was a little bit disappointed that my location was not at The Westgate Hotel. Also I had thought that toilet and shower would be in the room and not shared but that I had not read properly in advance.My room was very quietly, but maybe I was lucky because I think I was the only person in the building. I slept very well after a long day. The breakfast to my surprise was excellent including fruitsalad and english breakfast.The location near the railway station and the Paul Rodgers concert at the New theatre nearby were excellent.So I enjoyed my stay and would probably come again.

This friendly hotel is a short walk from the middle of Oxford and provided an excellent base for my one night stay. The hotel staff were helpful and welcoming, my room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Breakfast was excellent and the free on-site parking much appreciated.

Having booked a room for three nights I was concerned to read some very negative reviews on another site.They were completely unjustified, I had a comfortable, clean room, the staff were friendly, the breakfasts were excellent and the hotel is in easy walking distance from the City centre, just what I wanted for a short breakThank you, I recommend you and I will come back

It is close to city centre and train station so it is easy to commute. Parking facility is good. Breakfast was good.The room was reasonable state but there was no shower gel in the room. Overall, the stay was good.

We had small rooms with private bathroom.It was very good,very clean,fairly to the price we have paid.We had a full english breakfast included,and tea and cofee in the room.The owner and the staff were very friendly.They also have a shop near hotel.It was useful.We have just one disappointment:the radiators from rooms don't work properly.It's warm on stairs,halls,lobby,but not in the rooms.After all,is a house from 19th century,we should not expect too much.It's ok for a short time.

Thehotel is really closed to the station and easy to find.I booked two rooms and both of them are clear and warm. The host is friendly and kind that tried his best to satisfied our needs.

Charming hotel with good service located just a two-minute walk from the train station with trains to and from London and several local buses. Basic, decently sized rooms equipped with comfortable beds. Clean sheets and towels. Every morning the plentiful, delicious breakfast was served with a smile. Staff attentive to detail and also helpful regarding advice on what to see and where to go. Our four-night stay with our three children aged 7, 9 and 11 was a great success indeed. We hope to do it again.

The hotel is very close to the railway station and not far from the city center and is very convenient. I really love the breakfast there and the warm service. The manager（I'm not sure whether the elderly gentleman is the manager)is really very kind and have very good manners and a sense of humor. My daughter really loves here and hopes we could visit here again.

It was a nice, clean Hotel. The staff was very nice and attentive and they had a great breakfast. They have a lovely little cafe in the back where you can enjoy your tea both inside and outside.

The location is good even though it could be some noise in the evening. Steep and narrow stairs holds the rating back.

Westgate Hotel offered a clean, comfortable stay located conveniently by the Oxford station. I was welcomed by the lovely, warm staff who made me feel right at home! It was my first night in England, having travelled alone from Australia. The room was incredibly comfortable but spacious - exactly what I was after!I definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for somewhere quiet but within walking distance to everything you need :)

Hi everyone,I was travelling to Oxford this weekend with my Mom and my dog. We chose Westgate hotel. The reviews were not quite welcoming but I disagree. The location is great, staff is welcoming, shower and WC are very clean. We enjoyed the stay.

Basic facilities, no frills, good value and very close to town with parking.

The hotel could do with a bit of TLC, the staff were friendly, the room was pleasantly clean, tidy, and comfortable, hotel location was good to walk into Oxford.Good breakfast, value for money, we would stop again

The hotel is really very close to the train station.It is just a few minutes walk to the city centre.It is very easy to book a place.The people who work in the hotel from the reception to the people who prepare our breakfast are really nice and friendly.

It was a nice stay. I liked that all what I needed was in the room. It was a bit cold though. It was also nice that the breakfast was being prepared at the moment.

My wife and I stayed here while visiting our son at Oxford. We arrived a day late, and our hostess thanked us for informing them of the date change because otherwise she would have worried about what had happened to us! We were within easy walking distance of the city. Breakfasts were wonderful - especially enjoyed the fruit salad. I will definitely book here next time we visit Oxford.

The westgate hotel is run by lovely people who cant do enough to help, excellent breakfast the friut salad was beautifully prepared and the poached eggs cooked to perfection with only a short walk to the town it is ideally situated , our room was clean and with a shower that i could actually work out how to use for a change.we look forward to our return.Thank you

I only spent on night at Westgage because I was in Oxford for an event at the Said Business school. Perfect location, easy-check-in, classic England treatment, hot shower, yummy breakfast, so close to the event and the rail. Loved it! Thanks Westgate!

our room was basic but comfortable for what we needed it for. Room was clean and tidy and beds were comfortable too. Cheap room which was a plus! Only downside no bathroom in our room so had to walk down the hall for shower etc. Didn't wake up in enough time for breakfast either. I am a 32 year old female who always travels alone when visiting friends and I thought this place was safe and very well priced (double twin - as the single was booked). The hotel is family run and very friendly, the breakfast service was polite and professional. I really recommend this place as it's also right next to the train station so you can drop off your bags and then take a 5 min walk into Central Oxford :)

Breakfast excellent. Room was OK, it would be great if the windows could be opened to get in some fresh air sometimes.

Though I had mingled up the date and was very late because of flight delay the landlady waited for me and did not make me feel any annoyance. The room was o.k. with all you need, simple and a little worn, not very silent because of the road outside. I did not try the breakfast because I took it with friends whom I came to visit.

My wife and I very much enjoyed the friendly staff and tasty breakfast at the Westgate Hotel. However, we were in a room facing the road, and had a terrible sleep because of how loud the traffic and kebab van are; it was also warm in the room, but we could not open the window due to increasing the already considerable noise. I have stayed here before, however, and found the back of the hotel much quieter.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel as it is conveniently located and very good value for money. The owner was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We had a bit of bad luck with some sticky cutlery at breakfast but the breakfast offered was very generous: croissant, tea & coffee, juices, cereal, toast and eggs, bacon, sausage and tomato.

Despite is not a luxurious hotel, my stay has been very good in the room that was not inside hotel, but in a house near it. Just a bit scared to be there alone (in the hotel I would be felt more protected but maybe less confortable). It was very quiet and nice, with bathroom inside, TV and clean towels everyday. Breakfast was good especially for cooked food but I eat only sweet things in the morning, so I could eat only fresh fruit, juice and toast with jam. Maybe it could be better to have more choice on sweet food for breakfast such as cakes, croissants and biscuits. The hotel has a good location just 10 minutes walking from the centre, passing near railway, bus and taxi stations. The owners have been very nice, I could also borrow an hair drier and an adaptor, finally also I could leave my baggage in the hotel the last day, after the check out until my bus arrived.

Ideal accommodation if you want to be close to the station. Linen sheet & pillow case appreciated. Good quality bacon at breakfast. some road noise but ok unless you're a light sleeper. Pretty garden.No frills but fine for the price - bearing in mind that Oxford is astronomical!

Being a disabled couple with our room on the top floor, and no lift, we found it difficult coping with the stairs when ever leaving or returning to our room. The room was nice and cosy and the bed was very comfortable. We could not fault the food but were disapointed when we were told that we could not have our Dog with us at Breakfast time, considering that this is a pet friendly hotel we found was unacceptable as it meant leaving the animal in a room by himself or my wife and I having breakfast at different times, which is what happened. Apart from this minor mishap I can say we enjoyed our stay at your hotel.To improve may I suggest that, even though I know that you are limited for space, if you try to accomodate for customers with pets an area were they can have breakfast together

The Hotel was very friendly. The beds were comfortable. The room had all that we needed. Lovely dining room and breakfast.

The breakfast was really good and the stuff very friendly.The room smelled like smoke but was clean and spacious.The facilities were cleaned up every day.

We arrived late on Friday and were off first thing Saturday, but this was still a good experience. Room comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast served promptly and pleasantly and was very tasty. Good value, too. We'll be back!

Got their en suite annex, completely separate of everything else, nice and quiet. For about half the price of nearby hotel rooms! A tiny bit less nice, a tiny bit worn out, but still excellent value for the price. Wifi worked flawlessly too. Breakfast was fine, with the owner (I guess) serving guests. Seemed to be a family run business.
